What program does your agency use to redact police report/documents?
December 8, 2025 at 7:04 am #2157Connor SmithParticipantGRPD uses Adobe Pro currently!
December 12, 2025 at 10:21 am #2159Lance GackstetterKeymasterMSP also utilizes Adobe Professional. Be careful, we recently discovered that Adobe was automatically creating bookmarks when using the “Combine” feature. The bookmarks use the file names and if not removed prior to dissemination, may disclose confidential information if contained in the file name.

March 6, 2026 at 9:44 am #2281Raeann SantosParticipantIngham County Animal Control (and possibly the rest of Ingham County?) uses GovQA to process, redact, release our FOIA requests!
March 6, 2026 at 10:20 am #2282LeeAnn WitherspoonParticipantCity of Warren uses NextRequest (a CivicPlus product). We use it for all aspects of FOIA processing except billing. The invoicing process is cumbersome through Next Request and does not allow for the required 50% deposit on FOIAs over $50.00. We do NOT use any of the “auto redact” functions within the program; we manually redact every record.
May 4, 2026 at 11:42 am #2347KayCe ParsonsParticipantCity of Jackson PD also uses NextRequest. The invoicing is clunky, but we’ve found a way to invoice the 50% and put the request in a pending status until we receive payment outside of NextRequest. We also manually redact every record. We haven’t had any issues with storage, and we upload BWC and in-car videos into NextRequest once they’ve been redacted in Axon. Makes it easier for our requesters to receive everything in one place.
We also use it for providing reports to our local DHS, Parole, and Probation offices.May 21, 2026 at 8:25 am #2493Kimberly BertoiaParticipantIn regards to Next Request and Axon… are you redacting each video and downloading individually and then uploading to Next Request? We haven’t found a way to just send the Axon link through Next Request and many of our requests have way too many videos to take the time to download/upload each one so for now we are planning to just send the Axon link separately to save time/work.
As far as redacting documents, in the little bit I’ve played around with Next Request redacting tools, it seems like manually redacting works better than their more automated redaction tools. We are just getting up and running with Next Request these last few weeks so it’s a learning process.
