My Chief would like to speak with an agency that uses Karpel to find out your process with citations. Our Prosecutor would like to change and have our officers no longer issue citations (to be replaced with summons/complaint). We have started using Karpel in the past month, and there are several staff at the Prosecutor that are more familiar with Karpel, that came from another county. My Chief would like to find out information on what works for your department if your officers are issuing citations or not, and how are you tracking arrest statistics if not issuing citations? Feel free to respond to jthurlow@myalma.org if this is a topic you have insight.
We are issuing citations. Our knowledge is that they cannot tell us not to issue citations. I do not think we would even consider that. It seems like a huge issue with people not showing up for court, etc. We are just being introduced to Karpel and really want to push back not to use it.
So far so good for us with Karpel. It has been easy to learn and has alot of great features that make my job much easier. I was interested if any other agencies have found a work around that works for them. We do not want to stop issuing citations, but are open to learning something different if it works better for everyone, not just the Prosecutor’s Office. Thanks for your reply Amanda!
We were and still use Talon through CORE to submit Ewarrants. It is nice now that I can also upload supplements, labs, etc directly into Karpel after attaching to our incident. That part of it seems to work very easily. And it’s nice to know right away with an email notification whether or not charges are authorized after being submitted.
