    Good Morning
Is any dept using any type of AI program to redact records in response to a FOIA request? Also, when creating an invoice that contains fees for video and audio files, is anyone using an automated or AI program to calculate the number of time increments to charge for? We are currently doing this all manually and we are overwhelmed… thanks!

MSP utilizes some AI based redaction features when reviewing video as a means of efficiency; however, we also conduct a thorough human based review. We never release a record without a full human review as the results of the AI based features have consistently fell short of the accuracy of a human. We do not currently utilize any AI features for electronic documents; however, we are exploring those tools in a request for proposals currently underway at MSP.

MSP does not use any AI when generating invoices. As with any AI use, a ‘human in the loop’ is always best practice as all AI systems have shown to make errors or return inaccurate information. AI relies on the information it’s provided, so best practice is to give clear, detailed inputs with defined expectations regarding outputs. Once you have the results, verify the data before taking action. Ultimately, in my opinion, the need to provide strong inputs/output expectations and then verify the results mostly negate any efficiency using AI like this at the moment with the systems available to most government agencies (CoPilot being used by MSP).
