This session will provide a comprehensive overview of the Michigan Records Reproduction Act (MCL 24.401–406) and the standards governing the creation of digital images used as official public records. Participants will gain a clear understanding of the legal requirements for replacing original documents. In addition to the statutory framework, this session will explore key operational and strategic topics essential to modern records management, including:
• Challenges of Storing Paper: Understanding the risks, costs, and space concerns associated with maintaining physical records.
• Analyzing Records: Evaluating records to determine retention needs, digitization priorities, and lifecycle requirements.
• Digital Imaging Solutions: Overview of approved imaging methods, tools, and workflows for creating legally compliant digital reproductions.
• Quality Assurance Best Practices: Ensuring accuracy, completeness, and reliability of digital images and microfilm in accordance with state standards.
• Managing Electronic Records: Strategies for maintaining, storing, and accessing electronic records throughout their lifecycle.
Attendees will leave with practical guidance for transitioning from paper-based systems to efficient, compliant digital records environments.
Ms. Julie Markowski, an in-house therapist with the Grand Rapids Police Department, will present an engaging session focused on effectively managing mental health, emotions, and stress in high-demand work environments. Attendees will gain practical, evidence-based strategies they can immediately apply in their workplaces to better balance personal and professional pressures.
Ms. Markowski is a licensed social worker and clinical therapist with decades of experience supporting law enforcement professionals. Her expertise in trauma-informed practice, wellness, and resilience-building ensures participants will leave the session better equipped to navigate challenges and maintain overall well-being.
