Open Cases and How CJIC Reporter Can Help

The Michigan State Police (MSP) defines open cases as a set of criminal arrest fingerprints received but the MSP has yet to receive the subsequent charge and disposition information. This information includes whether the case was closed with or without a conviction. With over 600,000 open cases in the state of Michigan, the MSP provides several resources to help law enforcement agencies tackle their open case reports. One being CJIC Reporter, which allows you to run your open case reports, update livescan data, perform queries for open case research and submit completed open case reports in a secure and FBI compliant manner. In this training Ms. Aleasha Wood, CJIC Reporter and Open Case Analyst for the Michigan State Police will discuss the new open case report layout, the multiple ways open cases are created, how to research and fix them, as well as demonstrate how to use CJIC Reporter.

Michigan Incident Crime Reporting (MICR)

The Michigan Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) program began in 1959 with voluntary crime data submissions from law enforcement agencies. In 1968, Public Act 319 made crime reporting mandatory, and by 1982, Michigan transitioned to incident-based reporting through the MICR program.

This session, led by the Michigan State Police (MSP) MICR Unit, will provide:

  • Historical overview and current status of MICR
  • Dashboard review and tools for data analysis
  • Interactive discussion on common challenges and practical solutions
  • Upcoming training opportunities

Attendees will be asked to share their current vendor, designated MICR representative, and updated contact information to ensure accurate communication and support. LERMA will also compile a vendor-based agency list to foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing among agencies using similar systems.
